25852, ROYAL OAK OFFSHORE HONG KONG

Royal Oak Offshore Hong Kong 25852

38 mm | Hours, minutes, date, day, month (full calendar) | Calibre 2127/2827 | Bracelet 1010 | Water-resistant to 100 M | Launch date: 1997

On July 1, 1997, after a 99-year lease, the British crown returned the territories of Hong Kong and Kowloon to China. To mark this event, Audemars Piguet created a Limited Edition derived from the 25807 model. The caseback is engraved with the inscription "HONG KONG 1st July 1997" followed by the name of the city in Chinese characters. On the dial side, the day of the week and the month are also in Chinese characters. In a nod to the four digits of the year in question, 19 of these timepieces were issued in pink gold and 97 in steel.

This special edition was probably offered by Desco Hong Kong, a subsidiary of the Swiss company Desco von Schulthess which was responsible during the 1990s for the distribution of Audemars Piguet watches in Hong Kong, China and Japan, and which also held a stake in the Le Brassus-based company.

At the end of December 1996, 46 units were shipped from the Vallée de Joux to Desco Hong Kong, followed at the beginning of 1997 by the next 69, ensuring that they would all be available for the July ceremonies.

Total: 115 units sold, of which 46 in 1996 (27 ST, 19 OR) and 69 ST in 1997.

Derived from Model 25807.
