Introduced in 1986, Calibre 2130 belongs to the category of small selfwinding calibres. Its dimensions (20.4 mm - 9 lignes in diameter and 3.2 mm thick) make it suitable for ladies' watches. It was notably used in the Royal Oak 30 mm Models 14470 (1986), 14587 (1988) or later 14922 (1997). Nevertheless, from the year of its launch, it appeared in Model 14486, whose 35 mm diameter was then intended for male wrists. It is even found in some 36 mm variations of Models 4332 and 14700!

In the 1980s-1990s, it was not uncommon for a single Royal Oak model to contain several different calibres belonging to the same family. Thus, for example, according to the Production Registers, the Royal Oak 14486 housed at least four different calibres: 2130, 2131, and 2150 and 2151. The watchmakers drew on the available stock of movements and made the necessary adjustments. They could even go so far as to modify the functions of the watch. For example, when fitted into the so-called "bamboo" Model 14485, Calibre 2130 has no centre seconds, whereas it offers this function on Royal Oak Model 14486.

The 2131 variant differs from the 2130 in that it has a larger diameter (23.3 mm - 10½ lignes), made possible by the addition of a casing ring. This addition enables a larger date disc, thus maintaining a pleasingly balanced position of the date window in the larger-diameter (35 and 36 mm) watch.

Developed from 1988-89 and sold from 1991 onwards, the 2150 and 2151 variants improved the reliability of the mechanism, notably by adding a fast date corrector a fine adjustment.  The Royal Oak 14470 was thus for example initially equipped with Calibre 2130, which was in turn gradually replaced by Calibre 2150. It should be noted that this model also welcomed quartz Calibre 2610.
